“To Graduate is to be Out of a Job”
This is the dilemma faced by Mainland Chinese university students this year. Even last year (2008) before the impact of the global recession hit China, the employment rate of university graduates was under 70%. This means four out of every 10 graduates last year are still likely unemployed. But according to top government sources, 6.1 million more students will graduate later this year and will enter the labor market. But the government expects that more than 2 million of them will be unable to find a job (and this could be an under-estimate).
