Prayer Leader

Responsible to: Area Coordinator

Relates closely with: other volunteer team members, regional director, OMF prayer coordinator, other area coordinators in the region.

Purpose: To mobilize people to pray for the urgent evangelization of East Asia’s peoples as well as for the mobilization of critical resources in order to complete this task.

Responsibilities:

  • Model a consistent witness for Christ, praying regularly for OMF’s ministry and other team members.
  • Within your local church or community, develop and lead a group focused on mobilizing prayer or hosting prayer events for OMF’s ministry in East Asia and the United States, including prayer for specific countries, unreached people groups, missionaries and projects.
  • Schedule and facilitate prayer group meetings.
  • Keep a journal of group prayer requests and answers to prayers.
  • Mobilize new prayer leaders in your area.
  • Attend local prayer conferences in your area as an OMF representative.
  • Participate in volunteer team meetings (approximately once a quarter).
  • Meet regularly with area coordinatorproximately once a month - most meetings will be by phone).
  • Keep current on OMF’s ministry (OMF website, volunteer intranet, materials etc.).

Options:

  • Host a concert of prayer in your local area or church.
  • Serve at OMF sponsored events in your area.
  • Lead or go on a short-term prayer walking trip in East Asia.

Time commitment: Approximately 2-4 hours a week (some weeks may be busier than others).
Length of commitment: One year renewable by mutual agreement.
Training:

  • Completion of OMF volunteer initial training course.
  • Informal ongoing training conducted by direct supervisor. Additional training also offered through the OMF Intranet and during quarterly volunteer meetings.

Special qualifications:

  • Biblical understanding of prayer and desire to see more prayer for East Asia.
  • Previous experience in or leading a prayer group desirable.
  • Self-motivated to lead regular prayer meetings.
