Ministry Advocate

Responsible to: Area Coordinator

Relates closely with: other local volunteer team members, regional director, other area coordinators in region.

Purpose: Within your sphere of influence, educate the Body of Christ about missions and mobilize critical resources toward the advancement of a church movement in East Asia.

Responsibilities:

  • Model a consistent witness for Christ by praying regularly for OMF’s ministry, other team members, advocacy opportunities, and the people you are serving.
  • Educate the Body of Christ about the urgent needs of the people and the state of the Church in East Asia.
  • Present OMF’s vision and ministry to individuals and groups by communicating OMF’s role in establishing a multiplying church movement in East Asia.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to advocate by making 10-12 presentations per year to individuals or groups (may include staffing booths at events for OMF and seeking opportunities to hand out copies of Hudson Taylor’s biography).
  • Encourage Christians to purposefully seek their role in God’s plan for the nations.
  • Participate in volunteer team meetings (approximately once a quarter).
  • Meet regularly with area coordinator for mentoring and sharing ministry results (approximately once a month - most meetings will be by phone).
  • Follow-up on new contacts by taking appropriate action.
  • Keep current on OMF’s ministry (OMF website, volunteer intranet, materials etc.)

Options:

  • Serve at OMF sponsored events in your area.
  • Partner with visiting OMF field staff, facilitating logistics and mobilization efforts.
  • Seek opportunities to set up stand-alone displays in appropriate locations.
  • Invite friends, family and church members to mission events.
  • Express appropriate appreciation to ministry partners, especially those you have mobilized.

Time commitment: Approximately 2-4 hours per week (some weeks may be busier than others).

Length of commitment: One year renewable by mutual agreement.

Training:

  • Completion of OMF volunteer initial training course.
  • Informal ongoing training conducted by direct supervisor. Additional training also offered through the OMF intranet and during quarterly volunteer meetings.

Special qualifications:

  • Desire to share your excitement about OMF and reaching East Asia with individuals or groups.
  • Previous overseas experience helpful.
  • Self-motivated to develop new relationships for ministry partnerships.
