Heart for Asia Prayer Retreat 2009 Report

The San Jacinto mountains of southern California provided the setting for our first Heart for Asia prayer retreat. Sixty brothers and sisters of diverse ages and backgrounds gathered at Camp Maranatha in Idyllwild for a weekend of worship, fellowship, Bible teaching and prayer. The theme, "Praying in the Kingdom," reminded us of two important truths. Firstly, we have a responsibility as citizens of God's kingdom to pray confidently "Your kingdom come." Secondly, as beloved children of God, we have the privilege of drawing near to his throne of grace. Pastor Jerry Hwang brought us two Bible messages from Isaiah and Matthew focussed on these truths: "The Authority of the King" and "The Accessibility of the King."

Experienced OMF International missionaries helped attendees understand and pray for peoples and places in bondage to the four dominant worldviews found in East Asia – Buddhism, Islam, secularism and animism. In reality, these are often encountered as a cocktail of several blended together. A popular item on the program was Saturday afternoon's "Going Deeper" session, a flexible time of personally directed reflection and prayer. Also included was campfire time, testimonies, the Lord's Supper and small group prayer sessions.

We thank God for wonderful weather, warm fellowship, and both individual and corporate prayer times. We know that his kingdom will come in East Asia as we continue to intercede and labor together!
