OMF TAIWAN

Vision: Through God’s grace, we aim to see an indigenous biblical church movement among the working class people of Taiwan, effectively evangelizing their own people and reaching out in mission to other peoples.

Mission: To glorify God by the urgent evangelization of Taiwan’s working class people.

Strategy: We will not confine our work to one style of ministry, but will use a variety of methods to reach working class individuals and establish working class churches. At present we are active in church planting in secondary cities; in outreach to shop assistants/service industry personnel; in church based outreach; in youth ministries; in counseling services to those with a troubled background; in specialized ministries to those with specific needs; and in training local leaders to reach working-class people.

Church Planting
We will focus on a few geographical areas, establishing ministry teams, as workers become available. We will be creative in establishing churches that address the culture and context of working class people. We will seek to use reproducible methods that can facilitate church planting in these areas.

We will work with like minded churches and organizations in seeking to evangelize and plant churches among the working class. We will seek to act as a catalyst to help churches catch a vision for this work.

Youth Ministry
Taiwan's youth face great family and social pressure to succeed in school and have high expectations of material prosperity and pleasures. Increasing family breakdown is contributing to a worrying rise in youth problems: violent crime, sexual immorality, suicide, drug and alcohol abuse and school dropouts. OMF presently works with local churches and organizations to evangelize and disciple Taiwanese young people. There are many opportunities to run activities in public schools. We help with evangelistic activities, vacation camps, school-based student groups and church youth fellowships.

Although the church in Taiwan is beginning to develop programs that appeal to Taiwan's youth, there is much still to be done. Ministries for elementary and junior high students, technical college students and counter-cultural youth in particular need more workers. We will continue to help to develop and lead ministries reaching out to youth including both vacation and weekly activities.

Ministry to Urban Marginalized Peoples
Urban Marginalized People (UMP) are those groups of people which tend to be neglected and rejected by the majority of society. They include the homeless, alcoholics, drug addicts, problem kids, gang members, prostitutes, AIDS patients and others.

OMF is presently planting a church amongst the homeless in Taipei and a hospice for AIDS patients is being established. We are also reaching out to juvenile offenders, AIDS patients, prostitutes and children from dysfunctional families. We want to recruit more people with specialized skills to minister to Taiwan's UMP. Our goal in these ministries is to act as catalysts to inspire and educate Taiwanese Christians and churches to reach out to these people.
