Dr. Tami Fisk travel grant fund

Fisk Travel Grant Fund

Tami Fisk, M.D.

From 1995-1998 Dr. Tami Fisk served in southwest China, primarily Sichuan Province. Known as "Aunti Fei" by the children in the area, Dr. Fisk worked at a local hospital and commuted to mountain towns in the region. She conducted training for village health workers and held health fairs on village streets, administering medical help while showing and sharing the love of Jesus Christ.

Shortly after returning to the U.S. in 1998 for a fellowship at Emory Medical School in Atlanta, Georgia, Tami was diagnosed with melanoma. She soon went into remission and began splitting her time between Thailand where she researched emerging infectious diseases (including AIDS and SARS) and Atlanta, where she was an assistant professor at Emory.

Tami's dream was to return to China, but it was not to be. She spent her last days with family in her hometown of Denver, Colorado. She died March 4, 2005.

Her service left an indelible impact on the peolpe she served, as well as the colleagues with whom she served. Her love for God and others was continually evident to those around her. During her life, Dr. Tami Fisk ministred to people in Zambia, China, Thailand, and the United States. Her faith in Christ and medical skills combined to be a powerful witness for the gospel wehre she went.

However, funds were not always readily available as she traveled overseas. Following Tami's death, the Fisk family established a travel grant fund for medically trained individuals exploring and/or beginning medical service in China.

The fund is to help cover travel expenses for qualified individuals desiring to seriously explore or begin medical services in China, with priority to those wishing to serve with OMF International or MSI Professional Services.

Persons intersted in the Tami Fisk Travel Grant should make application to the Christian Medical and Dental Association (CMDA). Please visit www.CMDA.org , click "Missions" then "Scholarships" to bring you to the "Tami Fisk Mission Travel Grant Fund."

A Poem by Tami Fisk summing up her thoughts at the end of her earthly life:

Today I am healed.

Perhaps not the way you had hoped for,

prayed for, waited for

But I'm in a glorious new body,

free of pain, full of new strength

Free to run and dance in a place where

God himself wipes my tears away

immersed in a love, joy and peace that

we have a mere taste of during our

time on earth

In the presence of my God and Savior,

Jesus Christ, who loves me more than

His own life

Know today that I am healed.
