Why does OMF offer estate design services, and why are our donors and friends interested? The difficulty in making the bridge between desiring a godly, well-designed estate plan and actually establishing one is knowing where to turn and whom to trust. Estate planning can be complicated, expensive, time consuming, and even worldly. But we also know that having no plan or an ill-conceived plan can be irresponsible and in many cases result in needless burden and expense to loved ones.

OMF Stewardship Ministries is a resource in estate design services. We know how to guide our donors and friends around needless complexity, cost and delay - and through the practical issues that will inevitably challenge the design of a godly plan. Our objective is to see our donors and friends overcome barriers and actually implement an estate plan that is both fitting to their circumstances and honoring to God. There is no fee or obligation.

A Christian estate plan will proactively resolve issues concerning possessions and provide freedom and ability to maximize care for people and causes that are most important to us. How does OMF guide in establishing such a plan?

Step 1

We send confidential materials for you to complete and return. The initial materials include a commitment that you will do your best, with our help and as the Lord leads, to work through the suggested process within a reasonable time, usually 90 days. We find that our ministry is most beneficial to you when you make this commitment. The process is not difficult. We do not require or ask that you donate anything to OMF or include us as a beneficiary of your estate.

Step 2

You prayerfully consider at least one of the stewardship books on our Recommended Resources list (see our Estate Planning Biblical Helps page) or some other biblical resource of your choosing.

Step 3

We communicate with each other, normally by phone or e-mail, to work through all issues important to you and to a comprehensive, well-thought-through estate design. You always speak with an OMF professional - not an outside provider.

Step 4

OMF Stewardship Ministries prepares the estate design (like building plans for a house) in written form. We have a final review with you and make final revisions if necessary.

Step 5

You retain your own attorney to review the estate design and prepare the legal documents to implement it (like building the house). If you don’t have an attorney, ask your church or a friend - or at your request we can help by sharing our private national list of Christian estate planning attorneys. You may wish to involve other financial advisors. We remain available to consult with you and your advisors. You pay the fees of your attorney and other advisors. These fees will normally be less because the estate design will have been done beforehand.

To begin Step 1, e-mail your name and address to our Stewardship Ministries Director , Harry Halkowich, with a request that we send you the initial estate planning materials. There is no fee or other obligation for our services.

After nearly 140 years we still believe that God will supply as we seek to be a blessing - doing his work in his way.

One long-time OMF donor said he and his spouse had done an estate plan including a revocable trust several years ago. Although they had thought to revise it because of some changed circumstances, something had been keeping them from doing so. They wondered if there were not some larger issues that needed to be considered: Does the plan reflect who we are in Christ? Is it a right plan for our children and grandchildren? How do our retirement savings fit into our plan? Do our professional advisors have the answers for us? Does our pastor?

OMF is a resource in estate design services from a distinctively Christian perspective without cost or other obligation to our donors and friends. One friend commented that OMF had always been the standard of quality, experience and integrity in mission work. Could it be anything less in ministering through estate design services?
