North Korea - Death of Kim Jong-Il
21/12/2012 4:35 pm
North Korean state media have reported the death of Kim Jong-Il, age 69. His son, Kim Jong-Un was been named by as the "Great Successor"
As North Korea announced the death two days after the event, most commentators feel that the leadership have things under control. The North’s media has rallied the army and the people to follow the new leader. It is less likely that Kim Jong-Un would want to increase tension or change local and foreign policies during this time of transition. On the other hand, no one knows how the transition or the immediate future will work out.

Japan Update 3
23/03/2011 9:35 pm

It is over a week since the earthquake and tsunami on March 11th and relief efforts are under way. An OMF team from Hokkaido has gone south on Tuesday (22nd) with supplies and will set up a soup kitchen in a town in a devastated area, based in a local church. They expect to be there for about a week. A missionary couple who live in Sendai report many opportunities to help people, show sympathy and at the same time tell the gospel and give out tracts. Transport networks are still poor and gasoline is scarce. The crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant has caused a great deal of anxiety and uncertainty. The OMF Crisis Management Team monitors and assesses the situation daily.

Japan Update
15/03/2011 9:35 pm
From Bryan Thompson, field worker
"As I write this (mid-morning Monday) I am in the middle of a very busy but calm command center for CRASH Japan. My role in leading the volunteer coordinators' team has been overwhelming. So many needs, and so many offers of help. Where to start? I've concentrated on trying to recruit a team of coordinators to handle all the volunteers who are likely to serve in the months to come. There is a sense of urgency in everything we do. The headline in the newspaper this morning estimated more than 20,000 have lost their lives."
