Andy Smith

Missionary to the Philippines

Andy grew up in Kansas City. In 1977 he moved to Dallas, Texas, to study civil engineering at Southern Methodist University. During those studies, he attended a missions conference where God began to call him to cross-cultural work. A short-term mission the next summer made him certain of that calling.

After graduation he took a job as an engineer and got broad ministry experience at his church. From 1986 to 1988 he studied the Bible and missions at Columbia International University in South Carolina. A summer ministry revealed his giftedness in church planting.

He began missionary service in 1989 in the Philippines with OMF International and most of his work has been in church planting or the training and leading of church planters. He currently serves as Strategy Coordinator for OMF's work among the Bicolanos and coordinates OMF's member development activities in the Philippines. His engineering skills are called on occasionally.
