Nichols, David and Doris

David and Doris Nichols

Missionaries to the Philippines

How does one teach New Testament Greek to Cebuano-speaking students using an English language textbook? What category does a theological book with Dewey Decimal #283.061038 belong to? Ehese were two of the challenges facing David and Doris Nichols in their ministry of training Christian leaders at Koinonia Theological Seminary in the Philippines.

Having come to the Lord through the ministry of Campus Crusade while at university, the Nicholses early on caught the vision of reaching the world for Christ. Their interest in Asia grew during their years as public school teacher and as students at Dallas Theological Seminary and culminated with their joining OMF International in 1985.

After six years in church planting, discipleship and administration in Manila, David and Doris moved to the island of Mindanao. While teaching at the seminary, David sought to train Filipino pastors, lay leaders and Bible college teachers to use Scripture accurately. David's heart desire is to see these men and women equipped to apply the Bible in all aspects of their lives, and for them to train others to do the same. By teaching Bible, hermeneutics, Greek and theology, David desires to see God work in and through his students.

Christian libraries in the Philippines are few and far between and are often filled with outdated books and homeside rejects. Doris has been instrumental in processing new books that have been bought for KTS through generous gifts. Doris wants to make the blessings and benefits she has received through Christian literature herself to Filipino believers and non-Christians alike. She has also been able to use her professional skills in teaching at Faith Academy Davao, a school of 60 missionary children.
