Mike and Rowena McGinty
Church Planters in Japan
Mike and Rowena McGinty are church planters in northern Japan with OMF International.
Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Mike attended a Baptist church from childhood, but it was not until the age of 17 that he gave his life to Christ. He went to the King’s College in Briarcliff Manor, New York, and majored in history.
As the daughter of OMF missionaries, Rowena was born in Malaysia, and met Mike at the King’s College. She accepted Christ at an early age during family devotions. When her family moved to OMF’s former U.S. headquarters in Pennsylvania to care for the mission home, she grew in the Lord and met many missionaries who confirmed her own call to missions.
After their marriage, Mike went to Dallas Theological Seminary and Rowena to Dallas Bible College. During this time, they served on a short-term basis in Thailand with OMF. Together they sensed that God was leading them to serve in Asia. Following graduation, they spent two years in youth ministry at Cypress Bible Church in Houston, Texas.
Since going to Japan in 1984, Mike and Rowena have enjoyed being houseparents at OMF’s school for missionary kids, served in various adminstrative roles, but have primarily worked as church planters in Sapproo.
The McGintys are returning to Hokkaido in August 2004 for their fifth term. They will continue to plant a church in a new, growing area of Sapporo known as Satsunae. Mike and Rowena have three children, Daniel, Megan and Patrick.
