Jay and Heeyoung Jang

MK care in the Philippines

Jay and Heeyoung Lim were married on January 13, 1993. Jay was born in Seoul, Korea, and grew up in a middle class family neighborhood. Heeyoung was born in Deajun, Korea, and grew up in a wealthy farmer’s family. While Heeyoung grew up in a Christian home, Jay’s home was traditionally Korean in which idols and ancestors were worshiped.

Jay met Heeyoung in the U.S. in June, 1992. It was a most improbable meeting, because at that time Heeyoung lived with her parents in Portland, Oregon, and Jay was in Tampa, Florida. Jay’s mother in Korea arranged that meeting, but it was really God’s plan.

Jay first heard God’s call while attending a Sunday service in 1998, and he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord. Heeyoung accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at age 13 when she went to a retreat. However, she deeply experienced God’s guidance after 1998.

Jay studied electrical engineering in Korea and the U.S. Heeyoung studied German literature in Korea. They liked working with children, so they privately tutored them over several years.

Intercessory prayer is very important to Jay and Heeyoung. Jay was the Mien prayer coordinator for OMF and visited Mien churches in the Oregon area. Through that involvement, he developed a mind and heart for missions. Heeyoung was a committed intercessor for an unreached people in Irian Jaya.

The Jangs realized God’s calling when they went on a short-term mission to India. They continued to pray about God’s leading and consulted with their pastor. The Lord impressed upon them his desire for them to serve missionary kids.

Both Jay and Heeyoung feel humbled by God’s desire for them to serve as caregivers for missionary kids at Faith Christian Academy in the Philippines.
