Anne Alexander

Precept Ministries, Taiwan

Despite growing up in a missionary family in Taiwan, becoming a missionary was not a goal of Anne's life because she was afraid God would send her to Africa to live in a grass hut! However, the godly example of her parents and the evidence of lives changed by their testimony for Christ made sharing Christ a very important goal.

After a B.A. in Cross-Cultural Communications, an M.A. in Broadcast Communications, and four years of experience as a producer for Moody Broadcasting, Anne joined OMF in 1980 and returned to Taiwan and the people she loved.

In 1985, after a term spent learning language and being discipled, Anne attended Moody Bible Institute's Advanced Training Program for further equipping as a Bible teacher.

During her second term in Hsinchu, Anne began to develop her gifts at the Presbyterian Bible College by teaching English, Journalism, Bible, Missions and Discipleship. Attending an exciting Precept Inductive Bible Study Workshop in 1988 showed her how important it was to understand the Bible for oneself. Seeing the changed lives resulting from her inductive Bible classes helped her realize she'd found God's ministry for her.

In 1990 Anne and her co-worker Nancy Leet decided to teach and promote Precept Ministries full-time in Taiwan, which launched them into translation, editing, publishing and administration. After qualifying as trainers, they began to travel around the island and the Chinese world to train others to lead Bible studies.

Last term they hired their first two national co-workers, and were incorporated as a tax-exempt organization. Five workshops and over 20 texts are now available in Chinese. Four trainers conduct weekly classes and locally-sponsored workshops several times a month, training seminary students, cell group leaders, clergy and lay people in how to know God better through His Word.

Anne's goal is to see Chinese trainers multiplied and traveling to equip enclaves of interested believers to lead Bible studies around the world. Two Chinese couples are now undertaking the challenge. May God raise up others with this vision as well.
