Missionaries and the Blob

In our last issue, we looked at Blobs that reflected in peoples’ attitudes to mission, and their involvement. Here, we try and understand what a missionary life is like. Missionaries immerse themselves in alien environment, a new language, a new culture and in their first years, even the simplest daily task can become a fraught issue. How do you start building relationships when your language isn’t as good as a local three year old? How do you deal with disappointment or opposition without your familiar network of friends? Do we know what makes our missionary friends happy or sad, joyful or despondent, encouraged or demoralised? Here’s an opportunity to sit and ponder the situations missionaries put themselves in.
