Product Description

What is stopping you from sharing the Gospel? Maybe you are too old. Or perhaps you are too young to be taken seriously. Maybe being a woman is throwing serious difficulties in your way. Not Less than Everything by Valerie Griffiths will challenge the boundaries that are hemming you in and will change your understanding of how you can serve God. This book is an account of the women who went to China from the late 19th to the early 20th century as missionaries with the China Inland Mission. Alongside the historical facts runs a faithful testimony of how God used these women in remarkable ways so that his name would be glorified across the vast Kingdom of China. The contribution these women made is still being felt today and yet many were young, physically frail, some were poorly educated and others embarked on pioneering ministry in their old age. Their effectiveness came from one shared characteristic, their wholehearted desire to give not less than everything to carry the Christian gospel to China. These women had nothing more to offer than themselves and yet God used them in remarkable ways. For some, their apparent weaknesses meant that they were considered to pose little threat and were therefore able to travel far and wide across China. In other cases, indigenous churches grew under their care, as Chinese pastors, who would defer to the male missionary, were happy to take the lead in the presence of a woman missionary. School teachers became itinerant evangelists in the wilds of North West China. Uneducated girls became fluent in Chinese and trained Christian Chinese women to witness to other Chinese women. Read this book and never worry whether you are good enough for God again. Article from 'Faith...for Life' magazine from England*****
Ordinary women with extraordinary passion for God
This book gives powerful and remarkable stories of some of the western women who took the gospel to China in the 19th and 20th centuries, who dedicated their lives to God's call and gave "not less than everything" in the process. They're women who can't be stereotyped, some married, some single, of all ages and from a variety of backgrounds - ordinary women with an extraordinary passion for God's Kingdom. For me personally some of the most compelling material comes in the Appendix, a few brief pages describing the American Women's Missionary Societies and the conflicets the women often faced when men felt threatened, afraid of a hidden "women's rights" agenda: "but nothing could be further from the truth", we're told, "These women were not fighting for their rights but laying down their lives in Christian service." (p.335) If you're interested in the history of mission, of women's involvement in mission and, in particular, mission to China, this is a book you won't want to miss. Florence Lang from Singapore****
Women after God's heart
1 Cor 1:27-29 " God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things - and the things that are not - to nullify the tings that are, so that no one may boast before him." I was encouraged by the these women who gave up everything to obey God and took up the challenge living in foreign country, learning the language. Indeed God has use anyone, esp those with poor health to do wonders in saving the Chinese from perishing. This book provides a marvellous insights on missionaries tracing back to the 1800s of how the Gospel has reached China. These single female missionaries could do much more work than male missionaries are restricted; reaching out to the villagers, housewives. These missionaries were fighting against their weak health, without much money, standing firm on the promises of God. God supplied them all their needs, never lacking anything. Indeed today there's much unfinished task to be complete by each one of us who are called to bring His love to the unreached. Our obedience counts! Back
