Weekend Camp
Andrew Shaw - Monday 18 August 2008We’re now nearing the end of our stay here in Thailand and travelled down to Bangkok yesterday from the weekend camp near Nakkon Sawan.
Themed around the Olympics, the camp has been a real highlight of our trip and it was so encouraging to see the numbers of people who turned up (there were about 150 people there from all over Central Thailand). From Phitsanulok we had enough students sign up to warrant Chris, Simon and I taking a public bus to Nakkon Sawan as there was not enough room in the minibuses we booked!
The camp was spread over three days; from Friday evening through to Sunday lunchtime, and was based around a programme of games, workshops, evangelistic small-group bible studies and activities all together in the main hall.
Worried that the comforts we had in K-Hall might not be available at camp (namely tea, coffee and toast) we had made a couple of trips to ‘7 Eleven’ to buy some snacks. It turned out that none of the snacks we bought were needed as the food was great (no need for toast) and there was plenty of coffee to drink at least!
It’s been really good to see that people enjoyed the weekend, that everything went more or less to plan (dispite the sky deciding to empty itself and soak us on more than one occasion) and that everyone there had the chance to hear and respond to the good news about Jesus Christ. We’ve particularly been encouraged by the real interest that many of the students have shown in their questions about Jesus Christ and the gospel. We pray that God will water those seeds He has planted in their hearts and that they continue to be open to His word.
As for us, well now we have until Saturday to rest, debrief and see some more of Thailand before Chris, Simon and I fly home and Becky and Ari (Eleri) head back to Nakkon Sawan to work with P’Ann and P’Johnny.
Prayer points:
· Thank God for His provision in the preparation and throughout the camp
· Thank God that a significant number of people came and heard the gospel
· Pray that God would water the seed of the gospel in people’s hearts
· Pray for us, that although for us the work with students in Phitsanulok is finished, we would all continue to have opportunities to share the gospel and grow in our relationship with Christ. Also pray that Ari and Becky especially are able to get some rest before starting work at Nakkon Sawan.
