Mud, glorious mud...
Andrew Shaw - Tuesday 29 July 2008Well, it is so good to be back here; even the toast at breakfast comes out with a smiley face! And I am learning my falling tone. Andrew tells me it is a bit like dropping a stone down a well. His basic Chinese is proving useful. Simon? He is doing a very precise job of monitoring the team laundry, and the Welsh girls, Becky and ‘Ari’ (easier for the Thai and for the English), are happy too, now that they have found Pizza Hut.
This is Serve Asia, with an emphasis on the Serve, which is why I got very mucky yesterday (though that may have had something to do with Simon) and why we have all been teaching English lessons today. What keeps us going in this humidity is the gospel, the good news about our Lord Jesus Christ.
People say that to be Thai is to be Buddhist. I was surprised but loved that moment last Wednesday as we walked through Bangkok airport to the music of ‘Amazing Grace’. That is why we have come: We once were lost, but now are found, were blind, but now we see. Every Buddhist wants to see clearly. Every Thai wants to be free. As a team, we are convinced that Jesus Christ alone has the power to open eyes and to bring freedom to the captives.
We know you are partnering with us. Keep on struggling in prayer,
Chris
