First week round-up

Andrew Shaw - Saturday 02 August 2008

It's the end of the first full week of work, with English teaching, evening activities and student surveys on campus.
We've learnt a lot more about Thailand, Thai people and culture since we got here. The food is delicious and the people are friendly and willing to chat, and there have been some really good conversations in which we've been able to share our knowledge of God's love with students. I'm especially encouraged by the Christian students who have a real passion to see Christ glorified on campus and have been more than willing to go out and tell others of the hope that they have found in Jesus Christ.

Friday was an interesting day for me as I went with Ari (Eleri) to a traditional Thai show put on by students at the University. It was a skilful production which showcased traditional Thai music, dance and theatre. We didn't quite understand all of it, but we certainly managed to get the gist!

The day was rounded off with 'Cool Cafe!' in the evening at the Youth House, which included games, food, music, and a short talk by Chris about Christ's forgiveness! It was good to see a number of students who had been for English lessons there yesterday and we were able to get to know them all a bit better.

Today we've had a workshop day, with some music, juggling (which quickly turned into a game of cricket) and card making. The girls seemed content to do some singing into the fan!

Tomorrow we're heading to Church and Monday is our day off - we will be going to Sukhothai, the former capital of Thailand for a more touristy experience. The rest of next week we will be English teaching during the day and various activities with the students throughout the evenings.

We'd really appreciate your prayers for:

The non-Christian students we speak to, that God would open their hearts to hear from Him.
The Christian students, that they would continue to be encouraged as they do surveys and have conversations with other students.
For 'P' Julia, who runs the youth house, and us as a team as we prepare for teaching and the other activities with students.

Glad to hear it's going well! I'm really impressed by your regular blogs, keep that up, it really helps with staying in touch with what's going on. Be assured of my prayers!

P.S. Did you guys discover 'fan singing' by yourself or did someone show it to you? We spent most of the time doing the same thing last year! I knew we were onto something! 'S' and 'Z' are particularly enjoyable to sing into the fan!
