Final Farewell
Andrew Shaw - Friday 22 August 2008Tomorrow we must go our separate ways. The guys are flying home and the girls are taking the train up to Nakhon Sawan, to spend two months with the McClean family. We have all enjoyed working alongside OMF missionary Julia Birkett and her colleagues in Phitsanulok. But what does she really think about us? Here is the (un)edited version:
“The team has been a real help in the work of reaching out to Thai students. It isn’t a case of just finding them things to do while they are visitors in Thailand; they have really been a part of our ministry for this month. Without the team we couldn’t have made contact with so many Thai students and shared the good news so widely.”
Camp stands out as a team highlight. A part of that is knowing that so many hear the gospel in their native language. Another is experiencing fellowship with students and fellow workers from different nations. It has been a privilege to take the team through Ephesians and those images of belonging in Christ to one kingdom, one family, one temple, one body. Yesterday, as we debriefed, I was struck by how much we have benefitted from one another’s gifts and service, and from your support.
For me, coming back to Thailand and to Camp a second time, it was terrific to see three friends (one of whom we had first met while surveying a year ago) now make some kind of response. Who knows how God will use seed sown in the past four weeks?
