Andrew Shaw - Saturday 26 July 2008

Our journey to Phitsanulok on the air conditioned train was a fun filled adventure. Andrew and Simon gained a head start learning Thai with the help of a 5 year old Thai boy, whilst Becky accidentally gave away all our biscuits to his grandmother by offering her one - she misunderstood and took them all! Eleri is still upset!

Whilst driving through the busy streets of Phitsanulok to our accommodation we realised that the Thai way of driving was different to Britain, for example there appears to be no speed limit or seat belts. Our accommodation is really nice (it has air con!) We loved eating cao pat for dinner!

We visited a temple today to get a better understanding of Buddhism and Thai culture. Afterwards, we found out that Tesco really does sell everything, and just how much Julia likes ice cream!

A trip to the market allowed us to get some bright yellow t-shirts (yellow is the royal colour in Thailand and is very popular). It seems like durian (an Asian fruit famous for being smelly) doesn't actually smell as bad as they say it is. Some of the Thai specialties include.... pigs head, skinned frogs, water beetles and chicken feet! yum!
