OMF Blog
Greetings from Taipei!
Taiwan International - Thursday 05 July 2007The team arrived safely over the last few days, albeit only after a broken down coach, a delayed plane, a missed connection, and an impromptu trip into Hong Kong to watch the fireworks for the UK girls! We've spent the last few days getting to know each other and trying to adapt to the hot, humid climate. Praise God for air conditioning!
Today is the second official day of our trip and thus the second day of our orientation programme. We’ve learnt a bit about Taiwanese culture and OMF’s work among the working class, as well as receiving a crash course in Mandarin – we can now successfully order three different types of meat! We’ve also had the opportunity to visit some tourist spots. Yesterday we visited the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall (an important leader in Taiwanese history), as well as the Hell Money Shop where paper objects can be brought to burn for the use of one’s ancestors in the afterlife – air conditioning is apparently as important there as it is here!
Orientation will continue over the next few days, before our first English Camp starts in a local elementary school on Monday. Please pray for us as we continue to prepare for this ministry.
Prayer points:
- Praise God for the safe arrival of the team and pray for continued safety throughout the trip.
- Praise God for good relationships that are already forming between team members, and pray that these will continue. Pray that we will all learn humility and team work.
- Pray that we will learn from our orientation programme, and be able to put \what we learn into practice over the next three weeks.
