Fumin Outreach + Wanhua Prayer Walk

Taiwan International - Thursday 19 July 2007

Greetings!

After spending a week in Dali elementary school, this week we taught English in Fumin Community Centre which is only a couple minutes away from the school. Most of our students live in around this area. Knowing where they live and their surroundings really help us to know a little bit more of our students' background and in a way, helping us to understand them and be more patient with them.

While the Dali elementary school outreach were quite structured, this week we had more flexibility to decide the things that we taught and the games/activities that we did in the class. Some of us had the chance to share our testimonies in our class and in the large group. It was very encouraging to see how most of the kids were quite interested and engaged during the sharing time. The UK's and the Americans also got to teach all of us some cool folk dances which very much enjoyed by the kids.

We concluded the english camp today with a little party with the kids. We talked, we laughed, and played games for one last time. We all feel sad as we know that we probably wouldn't see these kids again. 2 weeks is not a long time but we hope that we have shown Christ' love through our actions and words to these kids who desperately need God.

Another highlight of the week was the Wanhua prayer walk. We splitted up into groups of two's and walked around the Wanhua area to observe and to pray at the same time. I personally got the chance to walk around the area where most of the prostitutes wait for their clients. It was really sad to realize that all of these women did not choose to live like that. Most of them were forced or trapped into it and couldn't get out of it even when they really want to. As I pondered upon this issue, I felt a bit overwhelmed but at the same time I was reminded that I didn't have to since the things that are impossible for men are quite possible for God. There is always hope in God, and these women really need to know this hope of glory in Christ!

We will be leaving for Kaohsiung tomorrow for debriefing with David Ullstrom and Irene Nicholson. Please continue to pray for us.

Praises:
- for the friendship that we have built with the kids and the opportunities to share our testimonis and the Gospel with them.
- for the support of the workers in Fumin community center for our works

Prayer requests:
- Please continue to pray for the kids that we encountered this week that they will come to know Christ in His due time
- Please pray for the prostitutes in the Wanhua area. Pray for the local christians to be more willing to reach out to them. Please also pray that God wil open a way out for them to get out from prostitution.
- Pray for the spiritual atmosphere in Taiwan that God's glory will be revealed amidst the spiritual darkness in this land.
- Please pray for our team as some of us got sick this week.

Thank you so much for your prayers and supports for us. We couldn't do it without your supports and prayers!
