Da Li Elementary School - Summer Camp
Taiwan International - Sunday 15 July 2007For the past 6 days, we have worked with some of the kids from Da Li Elementary School, in a summer camp, getting to know them in smaller groups and teaching them a little bit of English. Each day, we start off with sitting by the children and playing games with them, and doing motions along with the songs we teach the kids. As silly as it looked for us to be doing the motions, it was really nice seeing the kids smiling and laughing. Then, we gave presentations on each of our countries.
We were not allowed to directly "preach" the gospel to the kids, but we shared the story of Jesus calming the storm, and some of us had opportunities to share our own testimonies. It was good to hear what the kids would do in hard situations, and to share how we turn to Jesus in our own times of need. And even though we could not always communicate with the kids, it was good to be able to share Christ's love to them, even through the short week we had to spend with them. They are beautiful kids. You really learn to love them.
The week culminated in the exciting trip to the water park,a place where water and dreams collide in a splash of love and just a hint of chlorine. (Thanks for that, God has remembered, aka Zac the Australian.) On that Saturday, we stayed with the kids, just to play around in the park, and enjoy the excitement they got from chasing us lao shi's around.
We will probably not see most of the kids again, except for a few in the Fu Min Outreach next week, but I don't think we will ever forget these kids.
Praise:
- that we were able to share our stories of what God's done
- that we were able to share our testimonies
Prayer requests:
- that we will continue to be united demonstrating Christ's love to each other and people we meet
- ask that God will continue to keep us both physically and spiritually well
- pray that we will trust and obey the Lord no matter what situation we find ourselves in
- that there will be opportunites to share the gospel with people
