Week One...

John Goodwin TH Mac indiv - Thursday 09 August 2007

Hello again from a wet Nakhon Sawan, lots of rain today! Thank you for all you prayers and the encouraging comments!

Just a few quick snapshots from the week, and requests for prayer. Hope they're not too long...

The week has been wonderful for settling in - I've been made to feel so welcome in the McClean family, and have been able to get to know a lot of the students who have regular contact with the work at the youth house. It's been wonderful also to be with the Thai Christian students, and to find brothers with a very different culture sharing the same Saviour and with the same wish to make him known...

It's great to be here in the time after the work of the USA/UK teams. After the camp it's been a bit more quiet, with the regular activities only but the teams were able to meet new people and strengthen relationships with youth house regulars, and this week it's been amazing to see some immediate fruit. A few examples...

  • Please pray for the guy I mentioned before who seems to have begun the Christian life in the last few weeks. It's a great encouragement to hear him say (even if it's in v. limited English!) how much he loves Jesus, and of his desire to read the bible.
  • Pray for another guy, again professing faith who has been going around hias faculty telling people they need to believe in Jesus! Pray for both of these students to continue in their faith and grow as they begin to study the Bible themselves.
  • Pray for another lad that the teams met. He has never really heard about Christianity, but in the last few days has moved from saying he's not interested to saying he thinks he should believe in God, He's taken a gospel away and is reading it seriously.
  • Two other students are attending a Bible study group on campus, one seems very close to faith, saying that she doesn't care if cost is great. Pray for her to believe.

Also would you pray for the Christian students:

  • Pray for those on the student committee who have been very busy, Nam and Anh particularly, that they would keep pressing on.
  • Pray for distinctive holy lives for the students. This seems to be low on the priorities of many Christians, and there have been a few recent incidents - pray for their faith to be outworking in their lives.

The week has also been hard, and opposition and issues have come up. Pray for resolution and for faith throughout. This weekend we're all going down to Bangkok, so pray that this would be a relaxing and re-energising time for Johnny and Ann and the family.

thanks again, love in Him :)

Thank you for keeping us up to date with all you are doing. Sounds like you are having a good time. Will pray that you will be strengthened for the coming few days. Liz missing you on the university hotline - results out Thursday!
Hope Bangkok wasn't too hot and the traffic too awful! Isaiah 25v4 always seems particular relevant in hotter parts of the world: hope it's your experience too. Thanks for all the info - good for praying.
Great to hear your news... Praying that, in God's grace, those who are professing would turn out to be the good soil.

Don't forget to buy Pepsi for Bob :-)
    Dear John
Thinking of you in the heat over there. Praying for you and trusting the Lord will continue to use you. Give our love to J and A. Will write to them on Facebook soon! Will remember these folk you mention. I leave you will Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding ...".
Getting ready for H@H next week.. still lots to do.
    Much love Sue
Good to hear the update - keep trusting - love DMRCAS&B.
