Feeling hot hot hot...but not too hot
John Goodwin TH Mac indiv - Wednesday 15 August 2007Heya!
After a great weekend as a tourist in Bangkok, I’m back again in Nakhon Sawan.
We headed down to the OMF ‘safehouse’ on Friday morning with freshly cooked chinese doughnuts for the road. It was quite an experience to travel down the motorway in the back of the truck with no seatbelt or A/C! Bumps were the most exciting – at one point I bounced right up into the ceiling! Anyway we all arrived safely…
On Saturday Johnny took us for a whirlwind sightseeing tour of Bangkok, including a river boat ride, and a visit to the Royal Grand Palace and temple of the emerald bhudda. Travelling up the river it was interesting to see the little communities within the city, each clustered around a place of worship…Bhuddist temples, Mosques, Chinese shrines and once, a church. The palace and temple were spectacular, especially the temple (never seen so much gold in one place!). It was thought-provoking to see a place given so much time and devotion. After a quick trip to KFC and a very western shopping centre we headed back to our rooms.
On Sunday we went to the English speaking Anglican Church in Bangkok, it was quite un-nerving to begin with to be in such a British place with so many other Brits in the middle of Bangkok! We looked together at the faith of Abraham in Hebrews.
We arrived back on Monday afternoon to N.S (temp 38 deg!) after a restful break.
This week is more or less a normal one for the McCleans. Today we had ‘interactive club’ where I got the chance to English on the theme ‘food’…Including the fast food song – ‘A pizza hut, a pizza hut…’
Tomorrow is another chance for English teaching on campus and then in the evening we are having a Bible study on the theme ‘Grace’
- Pray for those who have been coming in the past weeks, especially a lad from mainland China. Pray that we would all understand more what it is to receive God’s forgiveness as a gift.
- Please pray for me (english) and Johnny (thai) as we lead this. Pray that I might pitch it at the right level as I don’t know the students that well.
It’s also been encouraging to study the Bible with a brand new Christian this week, B. He seems to be going on well.
- Thank God for his joy in the gospel! And pray for him as he continues to follow Jesus.
One other thing for prayer…
- This weekend we are having a day trip (to the swamp!) with all those who went on camp. Pray that this would be another chance to build friendships and talk about Jesus with those interested already.
thanks for praying, love,
john
