Arrival...and camp!

John Goodwin TH Mac indiv - Monday 06 August 2007

Greetings from Nakhon Sawan! Here's the first update, after 5 action packed days!

I got in to Nakhon Sawan on Thursday after a really smooth journey, with plenty of help finding buses/making phone calls from friendly Thai people. I arrived to a hectic youth house, where the McCleans and the UK and USA teams were preparing for camp the next day...it wasn't long before I was reading bedtime stories and dying boiled eggs... After some semi-coherent conversations with team members and Thai students I headed to bed...

On friday we headed off for Camp at a local resort for the w/e with around 90 Thai students from the Thai youth houses, around 40 of whom were unbelievers. The theme was "Look! Check it out!" (complete with enthusiastic arm gestures!) and the aim was to encourage students to look at Jesus and learn more from the Bible.

Camp activities included 7am treasure hunts, dancing like a roasting chicken, and even paint-a-pot. More importantly there were opportunities to get to know many of the students from Nakhon Sawan, and look together at the Bible - at Jesus' amazing power, amazing love and amazing care...

  • Praise God for opportunities to make friends quickly, and for the friendships the UK/USA teams have already made.
  • Praise God for Thai Christian students keen to share their faith with their friends.
  • Praise God for several students who want to seriously consider becoming Chrisitians. Pray for them as they count the cost of believing.
  • Thank God for his provision in providing in every way for the camp...

After heading home from camp it was time to say goodbye to the teams and tidy the youth house for an Irish football team calling in for the day on Monday.

  • Pray for the team today as they seek to share the gospel with students on campus today, and at a party tonight.

and for us in Nakhon Sawan:

  • After Look! pray for opportunities to point those who are interested towards Jesus, and get alongside one boy who seems to be a new believer.
  • Pray for energy and endurance for Johnny and Ann who have been very busy.

For me:

  • Pray for a deepening love for Thai students.
  • Thank God for the friendships already forming.
  • Pray for opportunities to speak about Jesus with my new Thai friends.

Thanks again for all your prayers, love to you,

John
