Arrival
- Thursday 19 July 2007How many hours sleep have the team have between them in the last 48 hours?
a)89
b)12
c)Too tired to work it out
This is the first update from the Sendai team... we are writing collectively after our first day here, and John helpfully suggested we just write about what we have done so far, so here goes...
We arrived at 1:30am and for the sake of directing our excitement at something we all got very excited about the carpet and travelator at Tokyo airport... less exciting was the news that it was actually 9:30am, and so the need for energy conservation subdued the general atmosphere slightly... And so began the quest to stay awake until 8pm - for John, whose late night packing antics meant he only slept 2 hours in of the last 55, this was a special challenge.
The orientation sessions were great but so hard to stay awake for... it got harder and harder not to nod off and not everyone got through. After a pizza (cowardly not to try Japanese food on the first night but excused by jetlag) we finally got to bed, and slept for a long time. So long in fact, only one team representative managed to join the 9am session... we won`t mention the name of this virtuous individual; for the sake of team morale, I will leave you to guess which one she is...
