First day of practice

- Saturday 14 July 2007

Now that orientation is over, we shifted our focus to the songs themselves. We spent the morning and afternoon going through the kids songs and adult songs (i.e. songs that the team only is going to present at the concerts, with the kids' parents as the intended audience in mind). By assessing and evaluating their appropriateness and relevance, we chose a reasonable number of songs for each category, though we had a hard time, because we simply wanted to sing everything!

Then, we had some time for our very first practice and we thank God that things did not sound too bad! We then proceeded for dinner, and along the way, Pippa bought a new flute (well, almost... long story there) and Katie a new Japanese-English Bible with some cool and handy Gospel tracts, both of which are very exciting purchases indeed!

Before I go on to the prayer requests: check out the interesting photos below, including some of Gumby, who's our mascot because he's flexible. As missionaries we have been reminded to be flexible, for we should seek to do His will rather than ours and trust that He's always in control even when unexpected and apparently 'bad' things happen. Also included is a photo of us with JP, who served in the Kids' Gospel Team last year and loves Japan so much that He came back to visit us and OMF.

And here are the prayer requests for today:

  1. Pray that we have depended on His wisdom and guidance in choosing the songs, and that He'll be pleased with our selection; pray that, if not, He'll make it known to to us.
  2. Pray that He'll guard our hearts against pride (especially as we practise in the next few days), and put our confidence in Him rather than our gifts, of which we're mere stewards.
  3. Pray that we'll be flexible, by being discerning, sensitive and obedient to His will.
