First few days in Sapporo
fmzero Hokkaido - Sunday 08 July 2007Since we arrived in Sapporo 4 days ago, there has been loads to do! Our first challenge was to post the remaining flyers in neighbouring houses, over 5000 flyers in all. Going to front doors to post them really brought home just how many people there were in the local area - most of them living and dying without ever knowing of God's gift of salvation. The flyers were advertising the various events that Richard is putting on over the next four weeks and beyond.
The two engineers went to a conversational English class at Hokudai University on Friday. Friendships are beginning and hopefully as they go back there over the coming weeks there will be opportunities to introduce them to the work of fmZERO. Will and Mark went along to a football tournament, where, despite their 'skills', they were able to strike up some conversations and start some friendships with some Japanese guys there.
Alex and Will have both managed to get lost in Sapporo now. Alice and Rachel are yet to bake the perfect cake, but are beginning to adapt to the different range of ingredients available in Japan. Goody's "Photos of Engineering Interest" collection is increasing (by the way, that's an appallingly difficult sentence for Japanese people to understand). Mark is, well...
We're having a BBQ as an evangelistic event next Saturday at the Lighthouse Church. Hopefully this will be a great opportunity for links to develop with young people at the local high school and for the kids at the church to invite their friends to hear about Jesus.
Lastly, last night we went to the Japanese public baths, and much relaxation was had by all!
This coming week there will be more English classes on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, English club on Wednesday, as well as continued visits to the engineers' English language conversation class and the boys' football tournament.
