2 down 1 to go

We’ve entered into our 3rd week in Lucban, and that also signifies that our time here is approaching the end. Marisol left us on Friday to resume her studies in Canberra, Australia. Her departure was also a good time for us to reflect on the past 2 weeks and prepare for the final week. Both of us have a relatively heavy schedule this coming week – Jonathan is preaching on Sunday, as well as leading 2 bible studies on Monday night. John is sharing a devotional message on Tuesday, and leading 2 bible studies on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. On top of that, we’re still continuing with the English teaching with the Vietnamese, and both John and Jon have an extra seminar with the nurses and engineers respectively. But we’re grateful for all these opportunities that has opened up since we arrived in Lucban and very much look forward to meeting more people and God willing, sharing the gospel with them.

Besides reflecting on the last 2 weeks, we were able to get some rest and relax. One of the ways was to sing with the Filipinos – and praise God too, for they all have AMAZING voices. John also had a chance to go to Luzena with Pastor Jes to do some shopping (and came back with new furniture for the house!) and to get away from Lucban. Whilst Jonathan took the chance to spend some time with the housemates and took a dip in the nearby mini falls, where he was able to learn the Filipino way to eat fresh coconuts, as well as getting sucked by leeches. By evening of Saturday, both of us were able to spend time chatting with the people in the house, finding out more about their life as Christian students as well as sharing their struggles. Many of the students here have their own troubles in life, be it family issues, financial difficulties, unjust treatment with employers… the list goes on. But one thing that we have learnt from them is that they are content in their circumstances, and their faith is clear, and hope certain. Something that we would hopefully be able to fully understand and to continue living in that light even when we return to the UK (or Australia).
