OMF Blog
Thursday 10th
Tom Welch - Thursday 24 July 2008Editor’s Note: We wrote this to be posted on Thursday 10th, which was when the blog stopped working, so we thought we would post it now as well just to fill in some gaps!
Another busy few days have flown by since the last post. Lots of fun was had by all on Sunday at our respective churches. Annie and Tom enjoyed a welcome feast by the congregation of Minami Church, rob and nat had fun at Oasa, and mark went to bbq after the service where he enjoyed bbqed oysters and other such delicacies! Afterwards began our 24hrs off- we all went to the beach and played endlessly with footballs and Frisbees, swam in the freezing cold sea, and had a bbq as the sun was setting over the water. We didn’t have a bbq, so Richard commandeered one which someone had abandoned on the beach- it was pretty disgusting, but apparently rinsing it in the sea was enough to make it hygienic. So we ate an excessive amount of discount meat on a filthy bbq, but it was a lot of fun. Then we all went to an onsen for the first time- naked public baths (gender segregated of course)- it was AMAZING! Incredibly relaxing and we all felt very clean afterwards. There are about 7 or 8 different pools to go in, a bit like a spa. The weird factor only lasted a minute or two before we all got used to it!
Monday harkened a range of meet-ups with students- whether to eat soup-curry, or to play rugby. One of our team also went to the hokudai English speaking society and went to dinner afterwards- many friends made and lots of fun had. On Tuesday the whole team spent the day at Tokai campus- we had lunch with a variety of people, played football with the students, and went to their English speaking society. Several of us hope to meet up with these students again to read the Bible with them. Rob and Nat spent the evening at Oasa “open house” night, chatting to students and looking at the Bible together.
Wednesday- Nat visited a children’s hospital to give a presentation on England, and the whole of the team went to a SACLA lunch, where we got to meet new students, and affirm friendships already made. Several individual meet-ups occurred in the afternoon. Rob and Nat then went off to the Lacuna English speaking society, then karaoke with the students, then stayed the night in Japanese homes. Annie, Mark and Tom went to Wednesday Night Bible Study, where we all had fun playing games and learning from the Bible together.
Over the next few days there is a Japanese party in connection with Tokai university, an English party in connection with Oasa, and an English party on Monday in connection with Hokudai. Annie and Tom are also have a homestay for two nights in Japanese homes. Life continues to be very busy here, but we are still very much enjoying every day we have here!
