OMF Blog
First contact
- Thursday 03 July 2008Just time to update the blog in a few moments for individual correspondence. We have had one full day here so far, after a 30-hour Monday which was as tiring as expected. Having met Alaric and Alex, two members of the fmZero team, and settling in to our respective accommodation, we got to bed at 8:30pm, rising to meet Tuesday after a respectable 11-hour catch-up. On Tuesday we began with a team time of prayer, before Annie, Nat and Rob left with Alex for a lunchtime English-speaking society meeting at Hokkaido University (Hokkudai). Meanwhile, Mark, Tom and Richard planned for the regular Wednesday evening Bible study at Sapporo International Church. There then followed an unfortunate event with a lost bike lock key, which culminated in Richard and Mark applying themselves to the lock with a hacksaw, to the mixed reactions of passersby. The hacksaw broke but not before the bike was freed.
The evening saw Nat and Rob off on the subway to Oasa Church where they will be spending a lot of time assisting with the student work. They went to an English speaking society at Rakuna University, and will be on campus regularly to meet students and invite them to the open house English-speaking classes on Tuesday evenings run by the church. Mark, Annie and Tom completed planning for the Bible study at S.I.C, to which around 10 students came. Fun was had by all, and we went on to Mr. Donuts afterwards to get to know some of them better. Later today we will be heading to Tokai University to flyer and invite to the student activities at Minami Church where Tom and Annie will be based. The mood is excited, as first contact with many students has been initiated, and Saturday brings two social events run by the Hokkudai cultural exchange association for which we are trying to secure invites and tickets. Do continue to pray for more new students to be met. Another update soon!
