Aims and Activities
Whilst we are in Japan, our activities have been planned and will be led by Richard East and Alaric Dunsmore-Rouse. The stated ministry focus of the month is to make new non-Christian local contacts for OMF, which will then continue after we have gone. The fmZero ministry is still young, and because the permanent team is small and the number of students in Sapporo is so large, the presence of five extra people to devote all their energy into making these new contacts for a month we pray will be of real and lasting use to the ministry.
As well as assisting Richard with existing regular activities such as the Wednesday evening Bible study, we will be running lots of new events, all with the aim of meeting non-Christians in the area by whatever means possible, and particularly students. These may include an “English tea party” which is apparently quite popular! The schedule is not set in stone but below is a list of some of the things we will be involved with between 2nd and 30th July.
- Participation in various student groups
- Organizing parties/events for students
- Handing out fliers
- Running a short English program
- Spending time on University campus
- Events to attract students using particular skills of team members (e.g. music, sports)
- Visit to a rural church situation.
- Attending Japanese church meetings
We hope also to be an encouragement to Richard and the fmZero team in their work, and the church in Sapporo. Japan is a hard country to be Christian in, when surrounded by rampant materialism, confused ritualism and sheer indifference to the truth of the gospel. As well as making non-Christian contacts we want to befriend Japanese Christians at our stage of life so that we can be mutually encouraged and built up in our faith.
In everything that we are doing, we pray that we will be able to glorify God by proclaiming the Lordship of his Son and his wonderful grace to lost Japanese people, in the hope ultimately that they would be saved. What better way to serve the Japanese people around us than by letting them know of the great peril they are in and the great rescue available?
