Week 2
Margaret in Thailand - Saturday 14 August 2010Week 2 "Make the most of every opportunity..." Bangkok is infamous for its traffic problems - but on this occassion we were praying that we wouldn't get to our destination too quickly!
"What time did you start driving your taxi today?"
"Oh, I just started - you are my first passengers today."
"When will you finish for the day?"
"It depends, but probably 2 or 3 in the morning."
"That's quite late, you must get very tired... do you have a family?"
"Yes, I have 2 children - aged 16 and 11, but my wife left me to go back to her home in the country."
So goes the conversation... he asks "What have you been doing in Thailand?"... "Why can you speak Thai?"...
Often my conversations with Taxi drivers don't go much beyond this, either because we've reached my destination or because the traffic is heavy - demanding the attention of my driver, or perhaps he answers a call, or starts texting - whilst still driving!!
However there is begining to be an openess in the hearts of the Thai people that didn't exist in the same way in the past.
Today, my answers to his questions seemed to unlock a door.
I truly believe that this was not just a chance encounter, but a God-given opportunity.
On this particular ocassion the taxi driver opened up and the conversation went further than the usual small talk - that has nothing to do with me, but everything to do with God.
Please pray that God would continue to work in the life of this man - and the many others who we have had the priviledge of encountering whilst we have been here.
Don't waste opportunities to share the Gospel - you don't need to be 8000 miles from home before you can start to share the Gospel. You never know how God may have already been working in that person's life.
Don't assume that they won't be interested, therefore using it as an excuse for not sharing the Gospel with them.
Pray for opportunities; pray that God would give you the courage to take the opportunities He gives you: pray that God would give you wisdom to know how to use these opportunites to glorify Him.
