What will we be doing?

What will we be doing in Japan?

Broadly speaking the aims of the trip are threefold:

  1. To facilitate many Japanese students hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ, and putting their trust in him to receive salvation. We will be doing that by putting on many events where people can come and learn the English language and hear a gospel explanation in Japanese from Richard.
  2. To encourage Richard East in the work that he is doing.
  3. To experience something of the Japanese culture and people and so consider whether serving Christ in Japan in a more long-term way might be appropriate for any of us.

Our schedule is flexible, but here is a broad outline of what we will be doing:

2nd JulyArrive in Toyko and travel to OMF headquarters
3rd - 4th JulyOrientation to Japan and OMF’s work in Japan
5th JulyTravel to Sapporo by plane
6th - 31st JulySpend time with Richard East in and around Sapporo
1st AugustReturn to Toyko
2nd AugustA debrief day
3rd AugustA free day in Japan
4th AugustLeave Japan

Our time in Sapporo will be spent trying to meet many Japanese students. The following is a list of some of the events that we will be doing during our time in Sapporo.

  • Running a short English programme
  • Organising an event for Junior High school students
  • Organising an event for High school students
  • Helping to run a camp for High school students
  • Door to door inviting / handing out of tracts
  • Spending time on a university campus
  • Handing out flyers
  • Organising parties / events for students
  • Running events using particular skills (e.g. music, sports)
  • Visiting a rural church situation
  • Running young people's events at other churches
  • (+ free time to enjoy and experience the beauty of Hokkaido!)

As you can see, we will be involved in a wide selection of activities, each with the aim of meeting students, and looking for opportunities to invite them to events where they can hear the gospel in Japanese.
