  • Experiencing Japanese culture

Yesterday and today we got the opportunity to develop our understanding of the Japanese culture. Bryan (OMF staff) taught us the different religions in Japan: Shinto, materialism (self), new religion and cults such as Jehovah’s witness. What made us so sad as a team was that all those religions showed no security, no love and how it links to animism.

Alison (OMF staff) took us t...

  • Our first visit to a Japanese church!

    Hey there!
On Sunday we attended a Family Church in Yotsukaido. We arrived early and met the missionary family- the Norths. They were very welcoming and introduced us to the family church.

The visiting pastor at the church gave an encouraging sermon. The overall message was: Even if you feel like you are the most unlikely person to be used by God for something extraordinar...

  • Our first day of preparation

Today we ran through the kid’s songs for the program and brainstormed games which were related to the songs. This ran really smoothly and we were able to get it done in good time which we are all very grateful to God for.

We had some good fellowship this afternoon. We did a bible study on Timothy 2 and prayed for each other.
In the evening we had OKONOMIYAKI!! This is a ca...

  • Yotsukaido Kid’s Gospel Programme.

    Hi there!

I’m sorry that I haven’t been able to update. We had no internet in Yotsukaido.

Yotsukaido church consists of approx 70 people. The people were so friendly and welcoming. The pastor Ohashi Yoshitaka has been there for 10 years. He is a very hardworking, passionate worker for Jesus. This was very encouraging for us.

    The programme:

  • Rachel's homestay

I went to stay with the Hatori family. There were four kids, aged 12, 10, 5 and 11 months, and the second oldest, Meru, was taking part in the gospel programme. I had got to know Meru a little over the first few days of the programme, but she was very very quiet and rarely talked, so I was quite nervous about how the homestay would be. When I arrived, the mother had made us some lunch – I...

  • Esther’s homestay

I went to stay with the Shigetome family. The mother and father have 2 girls called Yumi and Saki. My homestay was a real experience of trying to communicate with the family. I spent the majority of my time in their home playing with kids and in the later evening talking to the parents about Jesus.

On Thursday, I had a light noodle lunch with the mother and the 2 kids in their ho...

  • Becca’s homestay

I am very thankful to have been given the chance to go on a homestay with a non-Christian family. I stayed with Mika (the mum), Sakura (a 9 year old girl), and Shunta (a five year old boy). Mika’s husband works in Tokyo for 2 night shifts and then has one day at home. She finds this difficult, and he is often too tired to play with the children when he is at home, please pray she would rea...

  • Steffan’s homestay

I felt very excited about going to my homestay family. Both of their children were attending the Kids Gospel programme. When I first met them, they were very warm and welcoming, and took me to an udon restaurant. We met another family whose daughter also attended the programme. I was fed very well throughout my stay, and was privileged to try a Japanese breakfast at the beginning of the da...
