• First things first...

For those of you who don't know yet, I'll be spending a month in Japan this summer (4 August - 2 September) with OMF to work with the Kanto House Churches Network (KHCN).

Unlike my involvement last year (in a team), I'm serving on an individual basis, though I won't be working alone most of the time! And naturally, there's much to pray for!

    1. For God to p...

  • Reached Ichikawa + Intro to KHCN

Observant readers will have noted from my previous blog that Jeathrow Airport does not exist (but it's obviously meant to be Heathrow!). But anyway, thank God that I've reached OMF Japan HQ in Ichikawa safely!

I suppose an brief intro to the KHCN would be appropriate, but given that I've not had any orientation or briefing or any personal encounter with them, the best I c...

  • What will I exactly be up to?

Even though I'll be involved with the KHCN as mentioned before, my activities here are not likely to be house church-related all the time, e.g. gym & dance evangelism, English talk, etc. It might help you in your prayers if I were to briefly outline what a typical week here will look like for me:

    Monday - Day off

Tuesday - Asagao church English Bible and/or meet per...

  • Clarification on KHCN

Oh, I forgot to mention that KHCN is actually smaller than previously estimated, with 3 full-fledged house churches (Tokorozawa, Matsudo & Ikebukuro) and 3 new church plants, and a total of about 35 members. Please pray for the full-fledged ones - as members can be quite mobile, rendering house churches inherently unstable in this sense, and the church plants - as church planting is Ja...

  • Updates...

I'm in an internet cafe now, so I'd better be brief!

On Wednesday and Friday, I went to the gym as planned but only managed to have very brief conversations with a couple of people there. Please pray for longer and meaningful conversations in the next few sessions, and hopefully someone will agree to go to some event (e.g. English talk @ Cocos restaurant) and that there'll be opp...

  • Praying for the city of Kawagoe

As mentioned in the previous blog, I spent an afternoon each on Thursday and Friday prayer-walking in the city of Kawagoe (see picture below for the kanji, i.e. Chinese characters), with one of the missionaries with whom I...

  • Fireworks on Saturday & House Church on Sunday

Sorry for not having updated the blog for a long while! A technical problem (plus other factors) prevented me from doing so, but all is well now, so here's some pretty old news from last last weekend (9 & 10).

    Even though I misse...

  • Gym & English Talk with Natch

On Wednesday (13 August), it was a slightly different experience going to the gym and later on, the English Talk with Natch. Natch is from England, but grew up in Japan (Sapporo) for his parents are missionaries here. He's studying in a theolo...

  • Meeting Kawagoe contact

On 14 August (Thursday), we met a contact from Kawagoe for the first time (as mentioned towards the end of my previous blog entry on Kawagoe). He was introduced to an OMF worker who currently stays in Kawagoe, who in turn introduced him to us, and we thank God for answering our prayers to bring us contacts from this city in which we hope to plant a house church.

    He...

  • Why House Churches?

After nearly 3 weeks of working with the KHCN, I still don't think I can answer this question very fully, but I shall attempt to answer it to the best of my knowledge, in case some of you are wondering about this question too, and so that everything that's going on here would make more sense, hopefully.

Here are some advantages of house churches, especially in Japan:
