Preparing for independence

19/03/2008 3:15 pm

Just as parents need wisdom to guide their children into independence, so church planters seek God’s direction as they prepare a congregation for transfer from foreign to Japanese leadership.

For 16 years the Chapel of Adoration in Ichikawa has been led by OMFers. In mid-2009 the church will become independent of OMF, although the OMF Japan headquarters and mission home share the same plot of land. The Chapel already has a Japanese pastor, Sozo Ikeda, working alongside Graham Orr.

It has begun the process of obtaining its own legal registration as a religious organisation and has applied for membership of the Japan Evangelical Churches Association (JECA). Both are lengthy procedures. Now they are looking towards sending out their own missionary with OMF. Pray for the church and the person concerned.
