Call to pray for 900 workers

27/09/2007 3:34 pm

As we reflect on the task the Lord has laid before us, a recent careful survey conducted by OMF confirms that 900 new workers will be needed for such work, reaching the neglected frontiers in East Asia; of these, 700 would be front line workers and 200 support workers. As the Lord challenges us with this vast need, we believe that, first and foremost, we are called to pray to the Lord for workers. OMF has now set a goal to pray for 900 new workers in the next 5 years (2006-2011). Our focus is not on remote places but overlooked peoples. Our frontiers are gospel frontiers and not physical frontiers. So far, from November 2006-July 2007, the Lord has sent to OMF 133 new workers.

D. E. Hoste, the second General Director of the China Inland Mission, wrote these words in 1929, when he asked for prayer for 200 new workers for China after a comprehensive survey of the needs of China:

“We ask our brothers and sisters in Christ at home to join us in praying to the Lord of the Harvest [to send out workers]. … But we are concerned that only men and women called of God, fully consecrated to Him, counting the cost should come…. Mere romantic feeling will soon die out in the toilsome labour….Faith in the Living God alone gives joy and rest in such circumstances.”

I thank the Lord for your partnership in the ministry of the gospel. I want to take this opportunity to invite you to join us in prayer to ask the Lord for 900 new workers in reaching the neglected frontiers in East Asia.
