To Do What?
Work with local churches to plant churches holistically among the urban poor.
Possible Tasks
a) make contacts with nonbelievers, evangelize, disciple, teach, and train; b) mercy ministries; c) community development programs; and d) self-help projects.
For how long?
Long term (3 years or more).
When?
Needed immediately.
What's required?
Learn Tagalog and then begin work with a multinational team. Work towards a church multiplication movement.
Language?
Tagalog.
Type of person
Have a vision for this work. Prayerful. Bible school or seminary trained. Highly motivated, creative, flexible, and showing initiative. Experienced in urban poor ministry. Gifted in church planting and/or skilled in medicine, nutrition, agriculture, social work, or practical services. Knowledge of folk Catholicism is helpful. Spiritually and psychologically mature. Physically healthy. Able to live simply and with lack of privacy.
Other Background Information
A large percentage of Metro Manila's population lives in squatter communities. Most of these still lack a witnessing church. For several years now, OMF has worked with established churches to minister holistically in some of these areas.
