(Continued interview from Day 24)
How can we help North Koreans spiritually?
The most important thing when dealing with North Korea is your attitude. You shouldn’t just think that there are so many souls to be saved or just concentrate on a particular strategy. You need to have a heart for the people; you need to be prepared to try and understand them and the way they think. North Korea may be complex, but remember the people are still normal people, like anywhere in the world. You need to understand them, be interested in them and love them. Don’t focus on the political regime, but on the individuals. The gospel doesn’t save regimes but individual souls.
The South Korean church needs to wake up and become focused on the Word and on Christ again. If North Koreans looked at some churches in the South these days and thought that was Christianity, they may be put off. The church needs to check the image of Christianity it is presenting to those who don’t believe. The church must approach the North in love, not in power.
Take the Bible and pray for North Korea using the Bible. The Bible tells us about those who are lost, about those who don’t know God; use it to pray for those in the North.
As Christians our main goal must not be to convert communists to capitalism, but to Christ. We’re not fighting a political battle but a spiritual one. (40)
- Praise God for his word and for the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- Pray that churches in South Korea, Mongolia, China and other places where North Koreans are, will truly show the love of Jesus to the seekers around them.
- Pray that North Koreans will “believe that God exists and earnestly seek him” and will eventually come to God and be rewarded by him.
