15. Children: The Future of Juche?
NK Blog - Wednesday 09 December 2009But Jesus called the children to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Luke 18:16
“Training young people to be ideologically and morally sound is the greatest proof of love for them.” Kim Il-Sung
The North Korean government believes that children are the future of the revolution and so they require special care and education.
The world is usually shown those North Korean children that are disciplined, talented and from families living in Pyongyang, who are the most faithful to the Party. But many of North Korea’s youth live very differently.
Many children in North Korea go to school in the morning and work in the fields after lunch. In the afternoon entire classes can be seen going to help in the fields. Some do not go to school and help with the farming from a young age — carrying wood or produce on their backs into town. Many children spend their days searching the hillsides for roots or wildflowers that can be made into soup for their families.
North Korean children need family love like all children but cannot always find it. Alcoholism is becoming a problem, leading to many family problems. H’s father left the family when she was quite young, so she had to sell goods at the market to help support her mother and sister. H finally ended up living in China. Life is hard for H.
- Praise God that he loves the children of North Korea.
- Pray for both physical and spiritual food for these children.
- Pray that these children will receive love from parents and others now, so they will later be able to understand that God loves them.
