100 FOR CHINA PROGRESS REPORT: August 2007 |
Made for China gains MOMENTUM
‘Can you: squat for a panda; dress like a mish; use big chopsticks?’ – This was the sign that greeted passers by at Momentum in July.
Several thousand students and young professionals had gathered at the Shepton Mallet showground to worship God and move ‘Into His Likeness’.
It was an opportunity we couldn’t miss, so a team of five people and a baby manned the OMF stall to discover if anyone attending was ‘Made for China’.
To this end, we introduced the 90-second Chinese squat challenge; got people to try on CIM missionary Alfred Bosshardt’s clothes, use four-foot chopsticks to select a prayer card, and – most successfully of all – attempt our Chinese Lifestyle Aptitude Test.
We spoke to several hundred people over the course of four days, handed out loads of Serve Asia CD-ROMs, built relationships and ensured that everyone we encountered was aware that OMF cares for, prays for and serves China.
Results elsewhere include
‘I met one couple who attend a prayer group in Somerset. They had a “chance” meeting with a young man in their village, invited him to their group where they were praying for 100 for China, and were hugely encouraged to discover he was one of the hundred!’
‘Every professional that shuffled through our 100 for China job cards found a job that matched their skills.’
‘We recently received an enquiry from a Chinese UK citizen who was challenged by an article in Billions about China.’
‘One church has just requested 30 copies of the China prayer guide.’
