Gaining Momentum
- Friday 10 August 2007Gaining Momentum
This was the sign that greeted passersby at Momentum in July. Several thousand students and young professionals had gathered at the Shepton Mallett showground to worship God and move ‘Into His Likeness’. This was an opportunity that OMF could not miss. A young team of five and a baby strode into place to discover if any of the delegates were ‘Made for China’. In order to encourage interaction with attendees, we introduced student-friendly activities that would be fun for visitors, but enable us to engage with them. So, we introduced the 90-second Chinese squat challenge, the chance to try on Alfred Bosshardt’s clothes, four foot chopsticks to select a prayer card, and, most successfully of all the Chinese Lifestyle Aptitude Test. We spoke to several hundred people over the course of the four days, handed out many Serve Asia CD Roms and started to build relationships.
What was the outcome of all this effort? Festival exhibiting is notoriously frustrating. What we did achieve, one of our primary goals of the 100 for China campaign, was that many young people now know that OMF cares for, prayers for and serves China.
