Thank you for introducing me to the true God!

Alice, from China, was in her first year of A-level studies at boarding school when I began meeting with her for Bible study each Saturday afternoon.

After a few weeks she said, “I believe all you are telling me is true but in my head it is like a tape recorder saying “there is no God, there is no God.” ”

She was battling with years of atheist indoctrination at school in China, but over the next few months, as she studied the Bible and attended church, she came to faith and was baptised.

We continued to study the Bible together until she moved to another city to start her university course. I still have the card she gave me in which she wrote, “Thank you for introducing me to the true God.”

At university she was the only international student in the Christian Union and the only Mainland Chinese in the Chinese Christian Fellowship. She said, “I need to attend these groups, maybe I can be a bridge.”

She took a Sikh flatmate on an Alpha Course and was delighted to be asked about Christianity by four post-graduate Chinese in her department. She said to me one day, “people just come up and ask if I’m a Christian, I feel as though I have “Christian” written across my forehead!”

Alice is now living and working as a Christian back in China. The adjustments have been a challenge and with a very busy and responsible job in a multi-national company she is often away or working on a Sunday and thus finds it difficult to attend her small church group. When she does attend there are no others with similar experiences to hers. So far attempts to link her up with a more suitable group have come to nothing. Pray that she will find others with whom to have fellowship.

Why does she work so hard? Because she is aware that her parents are becoming more frail and that if they need long term care of any sort they will be totally dependent on her. She is grateful for all they have given her by working hard to fund her education and now she wants to be able to give back to them.

Alice is one of thousands of East Asians who come to the UK for a period of time and are often more open to the gospel away from home. Will you join us in reaching them with the love of Jesus so that they too will become His disciples?
