Questions from a Chinese friend in Britain

  • ‘I have been taught that Christians are imperialists, unscientific, reactionaries and rogues ‑ but those who truly befriend me in this country are all Christians. Why?’
  • ‘If there is a God, why does he allow evil?’
  • ‘Why are there so many churches?
  • ‘Why did God send Jesus as a Jew? Why not a Chinese, as our culture goes back thousands of years?’
  • ‘I believe all you are telling me about Jesus is true but in my head it is like there is a tape recorder saying “There is no God, there is no God”
  • “First I need to make myself a better person then I will become a Christian”
  • ‘Do young people in the West have empty hearts like we do?’

How often have you been asked questions like that by your British friends - not often? Make friends with some of the thousands of Mainland Chinese now studying in the UK and you’ll be answering these and many others all the time…they are wide open to the Gospel! There are some 50,000 new visas given each year for students from China to come to study in the UK and they are found in every area of Higher Education, from undergraduates to visiting professors, and in most boarding schools, it is estimated that the total at any one time is around 100,000. These can be found in all university towns and many others where there are colleges or high schools.

OMF has a team working among these students and we can help you get started and provide ongoing assistance through literature, CDs, etc. and through Church Training Days which we run in various parts of the UK to help local churches reach out to Chinese and other East Asians in their area.

This is a fantastic, God given opportunity…don’t miss it!
