Thai Church Diaspora Involvement

15/06/2010 7:36 am

Tai Rom Prakhun Church of Bangkok was started about 10 years ago by a lay leader who is a lawyer by profession. Though he was discipled by OMF missionaries, this church start could be called an "indigenous, biblical church movement reaching out to its own people and in mission to other peoples." (OMF Thailand Vision Statement) Over the years, the church has reached out in the local community and grown to over 300 members,

has planted other churches, and has supported several Thai OMF missionaries to Cambodia (Khmer people). One such couple was Narin & Wilairat Sritandon, who used to minister in Cambodia, now returned to Thailand to mobilize the Thai church to be involved in world missions.
Tai Rom Prakhun Church is building a worship facility just down the road because they had to vacate the rented property they were using. As church members got to know the construction workers, it was discovered that many of them were Khmer, who spoke little Thai. So, Wilairat started a Khmer Bible study several weeks ago. Only a few came the first time. One of the men had been so ill that he could not work. Wilairat and a few others prayed - the man was healed! Last week, 20 Khmer attended the study! Now Tai Rom Prakhun Church is also involved in diaspora ministry!
(as told by Wilairat Sritandon, Thai Home Council)

  • Pray for Wilairat as she leads this study, and for many in the group to come to Jesus as Saviour and Lord
  • Pray for the other church members as they try to show Christ's love to these Khmer construction workers
  • Pray for other churches in Bangkok to reach across ethno-linguistic barriers to the unreached people groups in the city
