Not just a another taxi-ride

When you live in Bangkok, you travel in many different ways and a taxi-ride can be quite unpredictable. So it was with a sense of apprehension that I got into a bright yellow taxi last week. The driver turned out to be a kind, sweet uncle from upcountry, Singburi Province. He started talking worriedly about the political tensions and its effect on Thai society.

I was able to explain that for Christians peace with God has to be established inside a person's heart and eventually this will have an effect on society. How amazing that a man much older than me was open to let me switch our conversation with a political emphasis to one with a spiritual emphasis! The tract I had with me just happened to be one with a traditional water pump on the cover that explains how God cleanses people from the inside. As I handed over the money for the ride, I included the tract and said: "This is a summary of what we talked about. I am sure you would enjoy reading it." As he glanced at the tract, he turned round to face me and said with a big, beaming smile: "At my home in Singburi we have a water pump just like this one, just like this." In that God-moment I realized with a praise-prayer in my heart to God, that he was definitely going to read the tract!

  • Pray for many conversations like this one to be turned from politics to spiritual things
  • Pray for all the seeds planted through literature to bear fruit in the hearts of Thai people, like this sweet uncle from Singburi
