“Like they were trying to steal our Bibles!”

31/08/2009 1:29 pm

These were the words used to describe the crush of people as 400 youth detention inmates rushed to receive literature about Jesus. We visited the detention center in Nakhon Sawan, not knowing what to expect, outside of there being 800 young people, some convicted of drug abuse, and some of murder. We didn’t know what to expect, except that we would be out numbered somewhere around 1 to 61 (as our team numbered 13). The numbers, to be honest were intimidating, trying to visualize activities, games, songs and ways to communicate the freedom of Jesus; but we were reminded by a more experienced hand that this was a great opportunity.

It was with this reminder that we loaded up all the literature we could grab (behind walls and razor wire you have plenty of time to read). We prayed and asked the Lord of Hosts to open the hearts of these young folk and to open a door wide for the Gospel. We then watched with amazement as the Lord did just that, and we witnessed hundreds of young people, wanting to know how they could see a change in their lives crowd, press, and seek out something to read about Jesus. “It was like they were trying to steal our Bibles!” (From Sattha Soccer Outreach 2009)

  • Pray for these young men in detention as they are now reading this material to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
  • Pray for fruit from the other opportunities that the Sattha Soccer Team had to bring young men into contact with local Christians and the gospel.
