People like you and me

God is at work in people's lives!

He uses ordinary people to build His kingdom. Some Examples...

David and Gladis Chang

As a teenager, David, involved in a Christian band, began to develop a burden for reaching the lost through music. After graduating from highschool, he took a trip to East Asia, which the Lord used to call David to serve Him in Asia. After graduating from Temple University with a degree in music, David went to Thailand as an apprentice with OMF. His burden to reach the Thai people only grew stronger. In 1999 he went to Singapore Bible College where he met Gladys.

Gladys came to know the Lord when she first went to Singapore as a teenager. In 1994 she committed herself to the Lord and to missions during a conference held in her church. The Lord led her into full-time studies at Singapore Bible College. She became more convinced of her calling through many short-term trips and through living in a cross-cultural environment.

David and Gladys were married in December 2000 in Singapore. They joined OMF in June 2002 and are now serving in Thailand.

Marten and Esther Visser

The call to ministry overseas dates back to ancient history: 1975. Marten was 4 years old when he knew for sure he would be a missionary once grown up. Never doubting the direction of his life, Marten studied theology and cultural anthropology at the University of Utrecht in The Netherlands. During his university years, Marten met a veteran missionary by the name of Jan Poot, who had been serving in Thailand for decades. While he was talking with Jan, it was suddenly crystal clear that God wanted Marten in Thailand, Bangkok. Marten then proceeded to spend about 4 months in Bangkok, completing a thesis for his university studies.

On coming back, he met with Esther den Hertog, who was studying neurophysiology at the same university. Esther had shortly before started to think seriously about missions overseas. There had been a speaker in her church who simply said: the need is tremendous, who will go? She decided this could be for her. People need God more desperately than psychology. Marten and Esther got engaged and married, and while Esther was completing a master’s of World Evangelization after having finished university, Marten set up a ministry to reach refugees in the Netherlands with the Gospel. In 2000, they flew to Thailand, starting the difficult but beautiful ‘career’ of missionary!
